Microsoft aggiorna PowerToys: l'app occupa ora molto meno spazio

Windows 10 e Windows 11 sono sistemi operativi ormai molto completi e che offrono decine di funzioni per eseguire in maniera rapida alcune operazioni, ma Microsoft cura anche lo sviluppo di PowerToys, una suite di piccole utility di vario genere che semplificano di molto la vita agli utenti Windows.

Recentemente, l'azienda di Redmond ha rilasciato un nuovo aggiornamento per PowerToys: la nuova versione, più precisamente la 0.63, non porta con sé novità tangibili o nuovi programmi, ma invece risolve alcuni bug e soprattutto riduce lo spazio occupato sull'hard disk dalla suite.

Microsoft è infatti riuscita a ridurre le dimensioni del programma di installazione di PowerToys, passando dai 125 MB richiesti dalla versione 0.62.1 ai soli 83 MB per questa versione 0.63. Inoltre, una volta installato il software, questo ora occupa solo 587 MB anziché 817 MB.

L'azienda ha affermato di aver raggiunto questo obiettivo "mettendo in condivisione" alcuni file legati alle librerie di sviluppo (come Windows App SDK, VC++ Redistributable e PowerToys Interop) tra i diversi strumenti che compongono PowerToys: in questo modo, non è necessario avere una copia di un particolare file per ogni tool che lo richiede, ma ne basta solo una.

In ogni caso, arriva comunque una novità importante per QuickAccent, software che permette di inserire rapidamente le lettere accentate (ne abbiamo parlato qui): adesso è possibile scegliere una lingua specifica per ridurre il numero di accenti mostrati sulla finestra. Known issues

  • The Text Extractor utility fails to recognize text in some cases on ARM64 devices running Windows 10.
